Whispers of Ancient Magic (x10.y6)

Contributor: Amanda Firefox

The ogres at the edge of the haunted swamp paced back and forth in front of the box with strange purpose. “What would swamp ogres guard so purposefully?” Daelindra asked.

“More importantly, who are they guarding it for?” Ket grinned as he stole a glance at her, his wings flicking excitedly. “Who could convince swamp ogres to guard anything?”

“This whole thing smells of strange magic.” The sprite between them said. “Being here is dangerous. What if the ogres see us?”

“They won't see us.” Ket shook his head.

“And even if they did, they can't fly like we can.” Daelindra assured the sprite.

“We should tell Elder Geryui about this.” The sprite's words came full of worry.

“We will.” Ket's wings flicked excitedly again. “After we find out what's in the box.”

Both Daelindra and the sprite looked up at him, shock in their eyes. Looking back, he blinked, confused.

“What? I'm curious.” He watched Daelindra's wings flatten a little in fear. “Aren't you?”
