Starships of Destiny (x14.y2)

Kenna stood at the docks, watching a slow-moving transfer skiff come in for landing. Her transfer skiff. 48 hours ago, Admiral McClain had sentenced her to the Holgar, a garbage scow.

“Opportunity my foot.” She scoffed as she picked up her bag and headed towards the skiff. “Opportunity on Mars?” She said again sourly as she stepped onto the loading platform. This was a Rookie's tour. Nothing ever happened on Mars. The prison had the latest in everything. There wasn't a single human guard in the complex – all automated. Cameras, lasers, an android sentry 100 strong, force field riot shields, and that was on the low tech end. The indignation! She deserved more than to be stuck on the Holgar.

“Kenna Dalais?” A surly alien in uniform asked as she neared the front of the line.

“Reporting for Duty.” She said, flashing her I.D. The alien nodded his consent and checked her name off of his list. She finally reached the doors of the transfer skiff. As she passed through the doorway a technician completed a full-body scan and checked her belongings.

Once inside, Kenna glanced around the skiff and located a solitary corner of the vessel. She sat on the long, low bench and leaned against the wall of the ship. With a sigh, she dropped her bag on the floor and slouched down -- still muttering about Mars under her breath. At least the analgesic was kicking in. Her hangover was reduced to no more than a moderate headache.
